Latvija
2017-2020
The idea is simple: a bicicyst pedals down the road and the Latvian landscape is slipping by.
However, it took months of planning, computer drawing, milling specific details and several technicians to make it work. The rolling machine has around 150 custom-made details and has been perfected during several exhibitions.
The title “Latvija” is given because it is Latvian landscape slipping by. This is what I see when going around Latvia on my bicycle.
The biciclyst itself is a common sight in Latvia: many villagers bike to the forest in early morning to pick berries and mushrooms. In the afternoon they sell their stuff, buy the cheapest beer in large, plastic bottles and slowly bike back home.
The beginning of it all.
